U.S. Customs Form: CBP Form 4457 – Certificate of Registration for Personal Effects Taken Abroad

U.S. Customs Form 4457 is used to register personal effects taken abroad by an American resident so they can later be imported into the United States duty free.  American residents who take their personal items with them when traveling or living overseas are permitted to import those goods back into the U.S. without paying customs duties when they return to the country. This form allows importers to register those goods ahead of time, so there are no surprises later on when trying to bring them in without paying any tariffs.
