U.S. Customs Form: CBP Form 7501 – Instructions

U.S. Customs Form 7501 is used to file the Entry Summary for an imported shipment. Because every shipment imported into the United States must have a completed entry form filed with in short period of time after the goods arrive, form 7501 is one of the most commonly used U.S. Customs Forms. In fact, many importers choose to file a joint entry and entry summary to avoid paperwork redundancies.

The entry summary form requires more details about the goods being imported, tariff rates, Harmonized Schedule classification, transit details and other data points than the original entry filing.  Importers have a window of up to two weeks after a shipment arrives before they must file the entry summary to avoid liquidated damages.
