U.S. Customs Form: CBP Form I-408 – Application to Pay Off or Discharge Alien Crewman

U.S. Customs Form I-408 is an application to pay off or discharge alien (non-US resident) crew members in U.S. territory.  The United States permits authorized crew members of ships making a call in a United States port to enter U.S. territory without having to meet the very stringent Visa requirements of ordinary people.  Typically these crew members must rejoin their ship when it departs U.S. territory, however Customs will make exceptions to this rule in certain extraordinary circumstances.  Form I-408 is used to notify Customs of such circumstances.
